TV Tales - our shared folk heritage
The aim of this project is to bring into the lives of our students our shared national folk tales togther with the history, language and culture that surrounds them, and show the relevance of these tales in our world today utilizing tablet computers and modern I.T. methods.
The national folk tales of Hungary and Finland offer a unique and rich vein of heritage and knowledge covering many educational areas that can be used to foster friendship and understanding between these two countries and the young Europeans taking part.
National folk tales play such a huge and important part when learning about the culture and history of a country. Within these folk tales holds the keys to understanding what makes our countries what they are today and help us to understand more our place in the modern European Union. The innovative challenge is to bring these past stories into a modern setting and by doing so revive these stories in the minds of our students and communities.
We aim to produce an 8 part TV series related to some of the main folk tales that are known in Hungary and Finland. The mini-series will be scripted, directed and edited by the students and document a number of the folk tales but in a modern day setting using modern day techniques.
The TV series will be recorded during the two main group exchanges as part of the bi-lateral Comenius project using tablet computers. During the exchanges students will work on researching their folk tales, creating a manuscript for the TV shows, and produce 8 TV episodes in total.
Through this approach it is hoped that the national folk tales can become alive once again and that students from both countries can learn and work together to produce these examples of the past in the present.
